Originally found on the island of Melos, this classicizing sculpture of Venus / Aphrodite from the second half of the second century BC illustrates new Hellenistic influences demonstrated by a higher waist, a twisting S-spiral throughout her body and low slung drapery. She has been widely copied and appreciated throughout the centuries. Venus can currently be found in the Musée du Louvre, Paris.
